We are delighted to announce the first names for FIB Benicassim Festival 2015, just the first taste of a new era for a festival that is evolving, growing in quality and is looking forward to welcoming you to a festival that will live long in the memory.
We are thrilled to be welcoming a wide range of artists, from the powerful electronica of The Prodigy, the ethereal effervescence of Florence + the Machine, the sensuality of Portishead, the rock of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, the hip hop power of Public Enemy, the life affirming pop of Crystal Fighters, Bastille and Clean Bandit ?just a start for a bill that will entertain, move and thrill everyone in Benicàssim this July.
Speaking at this evening’s launch event in Madrid Festival Director, Melvin Benn, said: “FIB. The international festival that started the concept of international festivals enters its 3rd decade and what a wonderful feeling it is for me to be part of it.
The 3rd decade represents the real start for me and, as well as a stellar line up of Main and Second Stage acts we are announcing today -The Prodigy - among them, I'm also very keen to highlight the new areas of the festival we are developing this year, Trenchtown and Bearded Kitten. New and fresh ideas and areas to reset the bar for Spanish festivals in the same way the Moran brothers did in 1995. The FIB 2015 Benicàssim Festival is the future?”.
THIS IS THE SOUND OF FIB BENICÀSSIM FESTIVAL 2015:
THE PRODIGY - Liam Howlett, Maxim Reality and Keith Flint carry on doing whatever the hell they like. They carry on firing blasts of furious electronica, carnal and tremendously danceable. Doesn’t matter what you want to call it, big beat, electro punk, rave or breakbeat, their sound is a punch that burns the dancefloor and that’s made to be heard at full volume. And now they return with a new album, “The Day Is My Enemy”.
Who hasn’t surrendered themselves to hits like “Voodoo People,” “Firestarter”, “Breathe” or ‘Smack my Bitch Up”? With big tunes, screeching sounds, demented frequencies and brazen lyrics they have won a reputation as one of the greatest live bands in the world.
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE - We are thrilled to welcome Florence + The Machine to headline at FIB 2015, an exclusive show in Spain and a chance to see this amazing artist at the height of her powers. Her debut record, the widely-acclaimed “Lungs” led to her winning the Critics’ Choice and Best British Album awards at the Brits in 2009 and 2010. However the singer and composer from Camberwell, far from being content with that, kept on moving forwards releasing the outstanding “Ceremonials “(2011) that further confirmed a reputation that will soon continue to grow with new songs and an eagerly anticipated new album in 2015. Hopefully we’ll be hearing some of these at full volume when Florence brings her machine to the Main stage at FIB 2015.
PORTISHEAD - The charisma of Beth Gibbons and the music of Portishead is like a magnet. Hypnotic, melancholic, sometimes dark, the songs on their albums keep growing thanks to their extraordinarily ability to get inside your head as if they were whirlpools of sound. “Dummy”, “Portishead” and ‘Third” are three towering albums that climb to the stars, dive under the skin and lock into your senses. These Bristolians have developed a musical universe that solely belongs to them and, when Beth Gibbons starts to sing and one melody follows another, that’s when the magic arrives. Their headline show at FIB 2O15 will be something very special.
LOS PLANETAS - You need an introduction to Los Planetas, right? Los Planetas are undoubtedly one of the biggest and most important Spanish acts of recent years, and one we are very much looking forward to seeing where they belong, at the Main stage.
Their career has run parallel to that of the festival, they represent the initial steps of the Spanish indie scene in the 90’s and its growth towards the healthy and popular scene we currently have.
They have managed to keep their cult status and at the same time be a commercial success, remaining fiercely independent whilst releasing their records via a major company. They have reached wider audiences without losing the risk and the edge their music has always had, even more so when they started recently experimenting with their roots and mixing flamenco influences with their trademark psychedelic indie-pop sound.
NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS - The second album from Noel with his High Flying Birds, “Chasing Yesterday” is due out in March and finds the Manchester maestro in a clear state of evolution, writing robust songs such as “In the Heat of the Moment”, “The Girl with the X Ray Eyes”, “Do the Damage” and “Freaky Teeth” - songs that capture his innate ability to write classic rock n roll songs that will sweep everyone away at this year’s FIB. Expect to hear these and a few Oasis classics when Noel plays the Main stage at FIB 2015.
BASTILLE ? PUBLIC ENEMY ? CRYSTAL FIGHTERS - CLEAN BANDIT ? MØ - The return of BASTILLE to the festival will see them bring new material that shows the capacity of this London four piece to write great slices of hook-filled pop. If you really want to lose yourself in an ecstatic live show, you can’t miss the appearance of CRYSTAL FIGHTERS at the Festival. A band with a magical winning formula. Hip hop, attitude and hard-hitting social criticism: it’s PUBLIC ENEMY. FIB 2015 is proud to host such a legendary, vital and still important act at this year’s Festival.
CLEAN BANDIT is a curious mix of electronica with elements that could almost be chamber music resulting in songs with a strong pop sensibility to dance to whilst enjoying what goes on beyond the beats. Songs such as “Pilgrim”, “Don’t Wanna Dance”, “Never Wanna Know” or “XXX BB”, with Diplo, are calls to move the move your hips as MØ’s music hits your body and soul.
